We invite you to prepare a traditional Ukrainian alcoholic beverage called Varenukha. This drink became popular in Left-Bank Ukraine as early as the 16th century.
Ingredients:
Strong alcohol (vodka or moonshine), dried fruits, and spices.
Preparation:
There are numerous recipes for preparing Varenukha, so specifying exact proportions can be challenging.
- Use any type of dried fruit, place it in a clay pot, and fill to the top with vodka. Add a spoonful of honey, a chili pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger—just a bit of each.
- For the lid, cover the pot with a slice of rye bread, and seal the edges with dough to ensure it’s airtight.
- Place it in the oven on low heat and leave for 10-12 hours.
- After this, remove the pot and strain the drink through cheesecloth.
Varenukha is ready. It can be enjoyed either hot or cold. Enjoy!
