Ukrainian Cabbage Rolls (Holubtsi) with a Unique Filling

We suggest making Ukrainian Cabbage Rolls (Holubtsi) with a Unique Filling.

Ingredients:

  • 10 Chinese cabbage leaves
  • 500g chicken breast
  • 150g fresh mushrooms
  • 1-2 tomatoes
  • 2-3 tablespoons of cheese
  • Fresh dill
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

For the sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1-2 cloves garlic
  • Water
  • Salt

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the filling:

    • Grind the chicken breast in a meat grinder using the largest plate.
    • Dice the cleaned mushrooms and add them to the ground chicken.
    • Dice the tomatoes and add them to the filling.
    • Crumble the cheese into the mixture.
    • Finely chop the dill, add it to the filling, and season with salt and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Prepare the cabbage leaves:

    • Remove the bottom part of the cabbage.
    • Separate the leaves and blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes.
    • Remove the tough veins from the leaves.
  3. Assemble the cabbage rolls:

    • Place a spoonful of the filling onto each cabbage leaf and roll them up.
    • Arrange the cabbage rolls in a baking dish.
  4. Make the sauce:

    • Combine tomato paste, minced garlic, salt, and water in a bowl. Stir well.
    • Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls.
  5. Bake:

    • Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 35-40 minutes.
