Shepherd’s Pie with Beef

We suggest you cook Shepherd’s Pie with Beef. Shepherd’s Pie is a casserole made with a layer of minced lamb (nowadays often beef mince is used, and previously it was made with meat chopped with knives) and a topping of mashed potato. It is a traditional British dish. A pie made with beef is called a “cottage pie.” This term is known from 1791, when the potato was introduced into culture and became a food product available to the poorer segments of the population (they lived in “cottages” – modest houses for rural residents).

Ingredients:

Meat:

  • 400 g of cooked beef mince
  • 50 g finely chopped green onions
  • 200 g of gravy from cooked beef
  • Salt and pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon of paprika
  • ⅛ teaspoon of hot red pepper

Mashed potatoes:

  • 400 g of ready-made mashed potatoes

  • 1 teaspoon of thyme
  • 1 teaspoon of oregano

Other ingredients:

  • 400 g of a mixture of various vegetables (carrots, peas, etc.)
  • 50 g of cold butter, cut into cubes

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees (390ºF).

  2. Grease a round 6-liter glass baking dish or a 25 x 25 cm square pan with butter.

  3. In a medium bowl, combine the cooked beef mince, gravy, and green onions. Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and hot red pepper.
