Orange Chicken (Chinese-American Style)

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 orange
  • 2 eggs

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the chicken: Remove any excess fat from the chicken breast and cut into small pieces.
  2. Coat the chicken: Beat the eggs. Coat the chicken pieces in flour, then egg, and finally cornstarch.
  3. Fry the chicken: Heat oil in a deep skillet. Fry the chicken in small batches until cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the sauce: In a bowl, combine orange juice, brown sugar, soy sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Thicken the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 3 tablespoons of water.
  6. Combine sauce and chicken: Heat the sauce in a deep skillet. Once it comes to a boil, add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens. Add the cooked chicken.
  7. Finish: Add orange zest and finely chopped green onions. Toss to combine.
