This rich and spicy Mexican hot chocolate is perfect for warming up on a cold day. The combination of warm spices and rich chocolate creates a truly indulgent treat.
Ingredients:
- 6 cups of low-fat milk
- ¼ cup cocoa powder
- ½ cup chopped dark chocolate
- 6 tablespoons brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 cinnamon sticks, split
- 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
For garnish (optional):
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- Cayenne pepper
- Additional cinnamon sticks
Instructions:
- Combine cocoa and milk: In a small bowl, whisk together 1 cup of milk and the cocoa powder until smooth.
- Heat milk mixture: In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the remaining 5 cups of milk, chocolate, sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon sticks.
- Add vanilla: Scrape the seeds from the vanilla bean into the saucepan and add the bean as well. Stir in the cocoa mixture.
