How Cheese Lovers Day Came About
The history, origin and founder of Cheese Lovers Day, unfortunately, are unknown.
There is no mention of the year from which this holiday began to be celebrated. But it was on this day at the World Exhibition in New York in 1964 that the world’s largest cheese, which weighed more than 15 tons, was presented.
However, the cheese itself has a long history and traditions. Cheese is a dairy product derived from milk and has a wide range of tastes, shapes and textures by coagulation of the milk protein casein. Dairy raw materials are usually obtained from proteins and fats from the milk of cows, buffaloes, goats or sheep. The oldest archaeological evidence of cheese production dates back to 6-7 thousand years BC. In those days, milk was transported and stored in sheep’s stomachs and left for several days until the proteins separated into cheese and whey.
Cheese is highly valued for its durability, transportability and high content of fat, protein, calcium and phosphorus. It is also more compact and has a longer shelf life than milk. At various stages, bacteria, enzymes or fungi are added. With further aging at a controlled temperature and humidity, after a certain time, the desired taste, color and texture are obtained. Sometimes herbs and spices are also added as flavorings. At room temperature, cheese best reveals its taste.
There are about a thousand kinds of cheese, which are classified by taste and texture. Depending on the variety of cheese, its nutritional value will also differ.
On Cheese Lovers Day, enjoy new cheese recipes, learn how to cook cheese at home, or prepare a variety of cheese dishes to please your family. If you want to celebrate not at home, then in your favorite restaurant you can order a cheese platter, fondue, cheese pizza and the entire cheese palette of dishes that you like!
