We suggest making a hot Salep drink.
Salep is a great remedy for fighting viral infections. It is made from the root of a plant that has been known for centuries in Greece but is most common in the eastern Mediterranean. This plant is Orchis mascula from the orchid family. These orchids owe their unique properties to special starchy polysaccharides found in their roots.
Salep is especially popular in winter for its warming qualities. It not only warms you up on cold winter days but is also an effective folk remedy for colds and sore throats. Depending on taste preferences, ground nuts, cocoa, chocolate shavings, coconut flakes, or, most commonly, cinnamon, can be added to salep.
Ingredients (for 1 serving):
- 1 tablespoon natural salep flour
- 1 cup cold milk
- A pinch of ground cinnamon
Instructions:
- Place the salep flour in a small saucepan, add the cold milk, stir well until smooth, and set the saucepan over low heat.
- Stirring constantly, heat the mixture until it becomes very hot and thickens slightly.
- Pour the hot salep into a cup and sprinkle with ground cinnamon.
The hot Salep drink is ready. Enjoy!
