Ayran is a refreshing fermented milk drink popular in Turkish, Caucasian, and Balkan cuisines. While traditionally made with a specific starter culture, we’ll use natural yogurt for a simpler version.
Ingredients:
- 300 ml plain yogurt
- 150 ml sparkling mineral water
- Fresh herbs (dill, parsley, cilantro, basil)
- Pinch of salt
- Crushed ice
Instructions:
Ayran separates quickly, so it’s best prepared just before serving and kept chilled.
- Chill ingredients: Chill the yogurt and mineral water beforehand.
- Prep herbs: Wash and dry the herbs thoroughly. Chop them finely.
- Blend: Combine the chilled yogurt and mineral water in a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Add flavor: Stir in the chopped herbs and salt.
- Serve: Pour the ayran into glasses and place the glasses on a tray filled with ice.
