German Potato Salad (Kartoffelsalat)

Let’s make a classic German Potato Salad (Kartoffelsalat)! Potato salad is a staple in German cuisine, and it’s both tasty and easy to prepare.

Ingredients:

  • 700g potatoes
  • 150g pickled cucumbers
  • 2-3 shallots or 1 small red onion
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4 tablespoons sour cream or natural yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons chopped dill
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cook the potatoes: Peel and boil the potatoes in lightly salted water until tender. Drain and let cool.
  2. Prepare the dressing: Chop the pickled cucumbers into small cubes. Finely chop the shallots. Combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, chopped cucumbers, dill, and season with salt and plenty of black pepper.
  3. Combine: Cut the cooled potatoes into fairly thick cubes and place them in a bowl. Pour the prepared dressing over the potatoes and toss to coat.
  4. Serve: Optionally, you can add chopped green onions and/or finely chopped ham.
