B-52 Cocktail

Let’s make a B-52 cocktail!

There are a few theories about the origin of the B-52 cocktail. One theory suggests that it was created at the Alice bar in Malibu and named after the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber. Another theory claims it was invented at Keg’s Steakhouse in Calgary, Canada.

Ingredients:

  • 20 ml Kahlúa liqueur
  • 20 ml Bailey’s Irish Cream
  • 20 ml Grand Marnier orange liqueur

Cocktail type: Shot

Instructions:

Pour the Kahlúa into a shot glass. Slowly pour the Bailey’s over the Kahlúa using the back of a spoon. In the same way, pour the Grand Marnier over the Bailey’s. Light the top layer and enjoy the flaming cocktail! You can find this cocktail on the menu of almost any bar or restaurant.

Variations: Bartenders often deviate from the IBA standard recipe and use French triple sec liqueur Cointreau instead of Grand Marnier (based on cognac spirit and green Caribbean orange distillate). Some bartenders also use sambuca. There’s a variation where the cocktail is mixed and served on ice. There’s also a modification of the classic B-52 cocktail where the ingredients are mixed in a shaker and served in a cocktail glass.
